Ngamba Island

I'll be volunteering in Kampala in November, could I visit Ngamba Island on Saturday and Sunday?

what are the immunizations that I'll need?

Thanks.

Hi - There is a whole PDF handbook on the Jane Goodall Institute web site that answers all questions about volunteering/visiting Ngamba. Have fun!

www.ngambaisland.org has all the information you need. They have vaccination requirements for various activities -- we are staying overnight and doing some interaction with the chimps in December, so we needed measles, polio, yellow fever, hepatitis A&B, meningitis, and tetanus, plus a tuberculosis test within 3 months of our visit.

Chris - good for you. This is the site I was actually referring to, and you provided the link! :-)

Well, it was on my mind since we have been talking with Lily about our visit in December. We are really looking forward to it!

I have all the immunizations from my health care here and also from my previous visits to Tanzania. Do they need a letter from your physician testifying that you're healthy and have all the immunizations?

Thanks.

From my understandng, they do require documentation to prove the vaccinations and they are very strict about it. E-mail Lily, the director of the island (her e-mail address is on the web site) and she can give you details about the documentation they require.
