Nice pictures and nice organization!

For some reason I just love the closeup of the crocodiles tail.

Thomas -

Wow - I just bookmarked your site to show our group of future safari goers.

What kind of camera and equipment do you use? (I know it will make me weep)

thank you for sharing.

i really liked your masai photos best. how long had you been with those people before photographing them? were you shooting very close to them or far with a zoom?

i ask because i just attended a lecture with a nat geo photographer known for candid photos of people and i wonder what your technique was.

his was to spend lots of time with the subjects.

thanks for sharing.

The thoughtful grouping really adds to the quality of these wonderful images.

I didn't spend a lot of time with the Masai, I did use the short time we had with them picking out the interesting faces. What I try to do is look people in the face [good eye contact] ask if I can shoot them -or if their not real close - I walk about looking at lots of things waiting for the right opportunity to get the photo I want, then quickly get my shot. I try not to spend a lot of time setting up. Some times I pretend I'm shooting something else waiting to get my chance. The key with people is be fast or if their into it, let them know what you want and where you want them. Smile, laugh, be fun- Thank them-be really nice. If someone really doesn't want there picture taken -I just don't take it- it's not worth it and I just don't feel good about it. -thomas

thanks for your answer. the nat geo guy also talked about 'swooping in' as you seem to describe it.

great job and thanks for sharing.

On shooting the Masai tribe folks, I wish I had spent more time with them or with another tribe. Man how cool it was and how fast the time went. Seeing how others live which is so totally different from our norm. I was so into shooting the animals in the wild I forgot how interesting this could be-loved it.-thomas
