New pricing in Masai Mara
Rumors have been spreading that in the Masai Mara each of the four regions charges its own entrance fees. If a person travels through all four areas they will be charged 4 times.
This has been confirmed. It is now in place. It will probably mean that the camps and lodges will keep their vehicles in their area only and not allow the drivers to cross over into other areas.
As several people have stated in www.bushdrums.com, it might also start helping wildlife by keeping 20 vans from showing up to watch one lion or cheetah.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the next few months.
In booking your Mara trips, be sure to inquire about these restrictions.

Interesting concept. If its good for the cheetahs (and other wildlife) it's ok with me-even if it diminishes where I can go.
That might diminish the attractivenss of staying at one camp for a longer stay.
Thank you for the update. Isn't it about time for another ele fix?

I agree that in the long run it may be the best thing for wildlife and the environment. I'm sure the environment wasn't what they were thinking about when they passed this rule, but we'll hope it is a positive move.
I've already booked my next elephant fix - leaving January 20th!

I think this is already starting to take effect. We visited a couple of weeks ago, stayed in the park (Intrepids/Explorer) and our driver resisted going into the Northern conservancies. Have never experieneces this befiore in the Mara.
