New fodors format question?
 

I was trying to see what topics I missed, if any were interesting ........... but, besides the current topic index on the left side of the screen - I find it difficult to find anything. It just goes onto activity by specific date............. not going to bother scanning through it.

There are continuing complaints about only 25 listed topics and the awkwardness of paging back. Fodors is the only forum I know of that does it by date and not by "previous" or "page back". However, if you visit the Forums Help Forum and read the recent post " Please show more than 25 recent posts" you will see that Katie_H writes-
"Thanks for the feedback TDudette. We're wrapping up a solution/alternative to our current display of the topics. We hope to debut it in the near future. 25 topics will still show on the left but the way that visitors move to the next 25 will be easier. Things won't be broken up into "daily archives"."

So, hope so.

Hari, I also find it hard to locate interesting topics which I may have missed after a few days. I also find it hard to follow updates to threads I have posted on or have an interest in. Perhaps I could hand write a list? Hardly worth the effort. Sometimes I save the particular thread, but then I need to access the list through a different folder and it is all a bit of a fuss as sometimes there have been no updates.

One of the biggest irritations to this site, I find, is that of following threads. I don't need the middle east ones and I hardly ever look at the South African ones … just don't have time.

The biggest thing for me is that when I am online, all the activity from the States/Europe has finished so if it has been very busy, a lot of interesting threads have gone from the 25 shown.

Still, it is better than before travel forums when I had nothing to read and consequently had to work more!! :)

Well, Hari, you get no sympathy from me with keeping up. If you just stayed home instead of heading out to Kwara where you are out of touch for weeks, then you wouldn't have this quandry. Maybe instead of tracking 3 packs of wild dogs at a time you could be tracking the Africa threads. Problem solved. ;)

But seriously, doesn't clicking on each date help you see what you've missed on the specific days you have missed?

Start with your profile page, http://www.fodors.com/community/profile/twaffle/, and you can use that to see if more comments have been added to a thread you are following.

It does require paying just a little attention to how many comments had been made the last time you looked, lol, but otherwise it is a bit of a help.
