need private tour guide for Jordan

My husband and I will be in Jordan for 6 full days in September and would like a guide/driver to tour with. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We LOVED our driver Bashar Herzalla - see our blog for more info

Here is his email address

[email protected]

As you'll see in the blog we also had a guide - probably overkill (although we did have a ton of fun with the two of them)

Elizabeth: I sent an email to the email you provided and it was returned as undeliverable? Could you let me know if he no longer has this email address?

Was it very expensive to hire his services. I absolutely loved reading your trip report and you have spurred me on to allow my time in Jordan than I had anticipated. I was thinking of going in Oct/November, if that is not too late in the year weather wise? Thank you.

I had an email from him in January from that address - I note it's not a complete hyperlink above (don't know why) so if you just clicked on it and sent an email it wouldn't be the complete address so you would have to type it into your mail server. (I just sent him an email and it seemed to have gone through)

Otherwise he does have a Linked In account - you could message him that way?

As you can tell we LOVED Jordan! I think October/November should be fine - probably warmer than when we were there as you can see by our dress! I can't say how much Bashar's fees were as it was rolled into the overall package which was done by our guide in Cairo (also it was 6 years ago so I don't even know if it's relevant).

Elizabeth S: thank you for your speedy response. Yes, you are right - I did not use the complete email with hyperlink! I have now corrected this error and will wait patiently for a reply from him.

Once I digest your report, may I come back to you if I have any further questions? I am. Ow thinking of flying I to Amman and out of Tel Aviv. What do you think would be a leisurely amount of time in Jordan, as I am going on to see Israel afterwards.. Time is not a problem for me as I am travelling alone and can take as short or long as I wish. My first action will be to book a flight from London to have that secured. Any other tips would be gratefully received.

Happy to help - we spent 4 nights in Jordan and I could have easily spent twice that. We didn't visit Amman at all (that could have been 2 nights - probably do Jerash from that base) and I would have enjoyed more time in Wadi Rum, maybe even an overnight (although it might be too cold). And I could have added time at the Dead Sea as well.

Didn't spend any time in Aqaba.

Best

Liz

Hi Elizabeth

I read your blog and can't wait to get to Jordan. I will try to contact Bashar, but would also like to contact Osama. Do you have any contact info for him? You refer to Bashar as the driver. Do you think he could provide good guiding as well? (We like lots of info) Thanks - Beverly a

Hi Elizabeth

I will contact Bashar (loved your blog and can't wait to get to Jordan) Do you have contact info for your guide Osama Twai? I am concerned a driver won't be able to give us enough info. What do you think?

Elizabeth_S Mar 10th, 2014 08:36 AM

Hi beverlya - I would ask Bashar to contact Osamah (or he is on Facebook if you are - you could message him - here's his page)

https://www.facebook.com/osamahst

Bashar is knowledgeable and for a lot of people would be fine as a driver (with a bit of guiding). But if you like a lot of info you would likely be happier with a guide. I think now the common practice is for your driver to hire a guide at each of the stops, i.e. Jerash, Petra, etc. It was quite unusual for us to have a guide and driver for 5 days who traveled with us and I'm not even sure how it came about frankly. But it was like a wacky family holiday road trip!

@Elizabeth_S We've been corresponding with Bashar about our trip in March and he has been very responsive and helpful. How did you find him and know that we was reliable? We are just feeling a little apprehensive about moving forward. Thanks so much.

allsd - I organized our Egypt/Jordan trip with a Cairo based Travel Planner and Guide. For the Jordan portion he used a tour company in Amman called Desert Horizon whom Bashar works for (on a freelance basis I believe because you can book directly with him as well).

I also had Bashar as a driver for a 2011 trip to Jordan. I booked him through Desert Horizon (based on Liz's recommendation :) ). He was great!
