Need a Beach Recommendation for Southern Africa
My wife and I are planning to spend about 3 weeks in southern Africa next December and January. We'd like to spend 3-4 days on a beach somewhere - but we're not the type that enjoys an all-inclusive type of resort where there's not much to do except what's at the resort. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

If you like pristine beaches with incredible snorkeling and diving consider heading to Mozambique. The Bazaruto Archipelago and then farther north the Querimba Archipelago are both incredible, world class areas for beach and reef.
I'm sure there are some nice hamlets in South Africa too. |
Thanks PB. I've heard great things about both Archipelagos in Mozambique. But, both seem to be rather isolated. Is there any culture to be found near either?

The north coast of KwaZulu Natal is reasonably accessible and offers a great diversity of terrain and activity. I would suggest that you look toward the St Lucia wetlands area.
If you want more than just the beach and would like to really mix up the activities then head for the Cape, maybe staying at a B&B type establishment in the Hermanus area. |
hitman: I have stayed on Benguerra Island and there is a small population so you can meet some people doing their everyday lives but it is quiet and not a place to go for culture.

Dear Hitman
Please can you give us a little more information on what else you will be doing, a really nice beach area is St Francis Bay and The Beach House in St Francis Bay is wonderful. There is also The boathouse in Ballito where I had a wonderful few days R&R recently, but not knowing the rest of the itinerary it is difficult to advise. |
Thanks, all. I appreciate the input. I think we'll take mkhonzo's suggestion and hit the Western Cape area. It happens to fit in well with the rest of our itinerary, so that's an added plus.
