Has anyone travelled from Grootfontein on the C44 via Tsumkwe to Botswana? (or the other way round) The Bradt Guide says it should only be done with at least 2 vehicles (4x4 naturally), and then it's not clear from the guide where the border crossing is. Maps are frustrating in that the Namibia map stops at the Botswana border and the Botswana map stops at the Namibia border! I have seen no mention of this route apart from the guys doing it on 'The Long Way Down' (for those not familar, see www.longwaydown.com) but the website and their book is lacking in detail. Otherwise we'll go 'the long way round' via Rundu.

The crossing is 52kms (gravel) directly East of Tsumkwe. Its called the Dobe Border post, for the village close by. You come out on the A35 after about another 135kms at Nokaneng Village. Its a slow track, but quite doable.

None of the maps I have nor Botswanan or Namibian websites indicate that there is a border post here.But none of them have the border crossings from Impalila to Kasane or Lianshula to Kwando, so who knows? I would do some in depth research if I were you.

The Dobe crossing is on the Tracks4Africa map and travelled often.
