atravelynn: yes I only had a couple nights at Palm Wag, therefore one actual day of rhino tracking...but it was the most thrilling rhino viewing I've had...only seen Black Rhino in Aberdares, the Crater and in Namibia at Palm Wag...tracking them on foot was a great experience.
We crept closer and closer to a male rhino dubbed Speedy and then a mother and calf...in both instances we were charged (their eyesight is terrible but their sense of smell fantastic..I've got a few pics in there of both occurances...one with the muscles tensed just before his charge and then when he turned and ran off...to see a rhino and how fast it can move is an unforgettable thing...as you can see by the photos I have the before, as Speedy tensed and prepared to charge, and then where he turned and ran off...I wish like crazy I had snapped another picture as he rushed us but self preservation was too much and I was preparing to run for my life...same with the mother and calf...great picture of their backsides though! lol I don't know what is was about that trip but also at Palm Wag I have a pic or two of an angry female elephant kicking dust and rocks at us...some cranky beasts out in the Namib : )
