Hi Nicci! A few more questions for you. Did you book your rent car through Cardboard Box (?) or on your own? Were you at all concerned about the deposit required? Did the tour company book all your hotels for you? If so, did you have to pay in advance (if so, how much and how far ahead)? Thanks!

Hi Peep

We found better prices from Avis, so booked on-line through them. We did not need to pay anything to Avis until we picked up the car.

We booked the entire Namibia portion through Cardboard Box. They are a travel agency, not tour company that offers group tours. Initially we tried to contact lodges on our own, but we did not get any responses. So we realized a local agent who already had a relationship with these places was necessary. This is why we used Cardboard Box. They asked for 50% deposit upfront and then we paid the rest when we arrived in Windhoek. We were not concerned because they were highly recommended and we used a credit card. We worked with Rachael, the owner, who was very professional, honest, helpful and quick with follow up e-mail. I would definitely use them again!
