Namibia-Mobile Safari

Does anyone know of upscale tented mobile safaris companies that offer trips in Namibia? We have a Feb. 2004 holiday planned and thought other then staying always in the lodges that this would be an interesting change. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cardboard Box sent me this info.

Rhino Camp
Drive north from Swakopmund up the Skeleton Coast and visit Cape Cross Seal colony en-route. Travel through the Skeleton Coast Park and turn inland at Torra Bay into Damaraland and up to Damaraland. You leave your vehicle with Palmwag Lodge and are transferred to the camp from there. This is a luxury tented mobile camp that can be easily moved if local game movements deem it necessary. A maximum of twelve guests will have the rare pleasure of exploring this wild and remote area in the company of the dedicated conservationists hosting them, together with local trackers. The camp has large ?meru? tents with en-suite facilities including bucket showers with hot water on call. There are large populations of Hartman?s mountain zebra, giraffe, oryx, springbok and kudu. The predator population is the largest outside of the Etosha National Park with over 100 lions, cheetah, leopard, brown and spotted hyena. Bird life is prolific and diverse with most of Namibia?s endemics present. This concession supports a healthy population of desert adapted black rhino and elephants. Some of the camp activities on offer are rhino tracking on foot or by vehicle, night drives and full day outings (with a picnic lunch) on the concession.' Double room for N$2,395 per person including full board and activities.

This is one of the very unique things offered in Namibia as it is area where the endangered desert rhino live. You will be taken out by vehicle to track these animals and then once tracks are found you will go on foot to see them. It is an amazing experience.

It's detailed either under Namibia or Specials or New Programs, from left border, then select "itineraies"

This is the tour operator I have used for my various trip to Africa. Ask for Nickie and she can probably advise prices for 2004. Check it out.

Thanks Peep for the informaion regarding mobile safaris in Namibia. Palmwag was on our list as a must - as I remember, it is a Wilderness property. If you think of any place else, please let me know.
Again many thanks!

Dear Sandi,

Thank you for the information on Anderson Safaris. I checked out the website and called them immediatley. Unfortunatley, it is fully escorted via mini-van, so it would not work out for us having a rental car. It did sound interesting though, and they are going to send photos of the camps etc.. Wish I could find some mobile camps that we could join up with, even with fly-ins if necessary. Maybe, someone else will read this and have an idea.
Again, many thanks.
