Naivasha Accommodations

Fodorites,

Okay, one more question. I'm trying to decide between two accommodations in Naivasha (same price) for a group of adults.

(A) Great Rift Valley Lodge

(B) Naivasha Sopa Lodge

If any of you have been to either of them, could you please let me know what you think?

Ryan

The Lake Naivasha Sopa... take awesome square that! The rooms are HUGE. There is a nice sitting area by huge windows. Supposedly, hippos come up out of the lake during the day and wander areas of the gounds and you can view them right from your room.

Unfortunately, we arrived late at night and left early in the morning so we didn't see this at all.
Bathrooms gorgeous. Beds huge. Food great. Road leading to lodge HORRIBLE.

The grounds

So I would like to hear from someone who has actually SEEN Lake Naivasha.

The Sopa is only about 2-yrs old; Sopa lodges are known for their large rooms.

I know that Great Rift Valley has horseback riding and other stuff besides game drives. Have you compared the service/activities offers at both? That may be your deciding factor if spending time at one of these lodges.

Sandi,

Do you know where the naivasha Sopa is located? Is it on Moi South Lake Road near the Lake Naivasha Country Club? Or is it on the other side of the lake?

I really do not know exactly where the Sopa is located. Inquire of your tour operator or email the Sopa for specifics. Sorry I can't offer more.

simbakubwa,
That's correct, the Sopa is on Moi South Lake Rd near Lake Naivasha CC.

Great Rift Valley Lodge is located on the north side of the lake, not directly on the lake shore but set back on the other side of North Moi Lake Rd.

What do you plan to do at Lake Navaisha? The Sopa location would be more convenient for trips to Crescent Island, Hell's Gate NP, Longonot, etc. The north shore is less developed.

Patty,

Do you have similar maps for Amboseli or Masai Mara?

I think I got that Naivasha map from one of Mitch's posts.

Eben's site has a great maps of the Mara area (there are jpeg files you can click on or you can download the Google Earth file) - http://www.go-safari.com/Masai%20Mara/masaimarai.htm

For a map of Amboseli, try this one - http://www.shoortravel.com/amboselimap.html

It doesn't show location of the Sopa which I believe is east of the Kimana Gate (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). That's the gate we entered through when we drove from Tsavo West and I recall seeing the Sopa sign some distance before reaching the gate.
