My experience of 8 day tour in Morocco
 

I had the opportunity to make an 8 days tour in Morocco (Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat, Meknes, Volubilis, Fès, night in the desert, Dades, Marrakech). I just can say that I will never forget this trip. Our guide took care of us and we could know this beautiful country. He showed us the best places of each city we visited.

First day we arrived to Marrakech airport and he drove us to the Jemma el fna square. We also visit the famous medina, the heart of this beautiful city where you can find dancers, storytellers, jugglers, artisans, merchants, snake charmers, mosques and minarets, palaces and gardens, souks and bazaars. Then we were transferred to the riad.

Second day, we went to Casablanca, this is the economic capital of Morocco. We visited the outside of the Mosque of Hassan II, the Boulevard of Corniche, the Park of Nations and the Mohamed V square. Then went go to Rabat, administrative capital of Morocco. We visited here the Mausoleum of Mohamed V.

Third day we went to the Roman ruins of Volubilis, we continued to Meknes, and finally we arrived to Fez, cultural and religious capital of Morocco.

Fourth day we had a guided visit of Fez, the oldest of the imperial cities of the country, getting close to the Royal Palace and touring the Jewish Quarter, we saw the Medina, typical shops and neighborhoods artisans outside the mosque, the Koranic school, Al Bouanania, and the University’s Quaraouiyne.

Fifth day was the most special for me. We proceed to the desert route through the city of Ifrane, known as the “Moroccan Switzerland”, the cedar forest of Azrou and monkeys until Ziz Valley. Finally we arrived to Merzouga and change our 4×4 by camels for a walk in dromedary deep into the dunes, we watched an unforgettable sunset and spent the night in a Berber camp with typical dinner to the beat of drums. It was unforgettable!

Next day, we told goodbye to the dunes and head Erfoud direction from where we went to Tineghir and Todra. We reached the town of Boulman where another called Dades gorges formed.

Seventh day we crossed the Rose Valley and the city of Ouarzazate, we entered into the Road of Thousand Kasbahs, visiting Ksurs one of the best preserved Morocco: Ait Ben Haddou, a village built in adobe fortress, scene of many international films and declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Continuing the route through the High Atlas, we arrived to Marrakech.

Last day we made some shops in the Medina and we were transferred to Marrakech airport.

All was perfect for us, riads, food, culture, people… Ibrahim has been an excellent guide! I will come back in July! This time I will visit Essaouira, Marrakech, Ouzoud waterfalls, Chefchauen, Merzouga desert and coming back to Marrakech. :)

I wonder if you could offer assistance in my itinerary:

1 day - Rabat
2 days - Meknes
2 days - Marrakech
2 days - Sahara trek (Will I be required to travel independently from Marrakech to Merzouga, or will the tour arrange for pick up in Marrakech?)
1 day - Essaouira

Also, I am a female (age 35, mixed race/Black) who will travel alone. I have travelled alone abroad (from the U.S.) prior; however, would you have any advice to spare when traveling alone in Morocco?

Oh, I meant to add a photo trick in Morocco (or other countries where cameras aren't warmly embraced) that those of you who might be traveling can use. The streets are lined with products, many of which are mirrors. (note: you can't be in a group and pull this off as you will lose your group--you have to be patient). You stand with your camera as if you are taking pictures of the mirrors and lamps at a stall--look for a stall where there is activity or a "talking spot" on the other side of the alley. So many wonderful photos can be captured via the reflection in the mirror. Seriously, you get a complex, colorful, symbol filled street scene without anyone being the wiser.

I'm a 27 female and I have also travelled alone to Morocco (just with a guide), so don't worry about it, I dind't have any problem there, you will love this country.

I think it will be better to go from Meknes to Merzouga, and then come back from Merzouga to Marrakech and Essaouira, but this is up to you.

You can travel to Merzouga alone, or you can tell the guide where and when you want him to pick up you. I prefer going with a guide because it is a long trip from Marrakech or Mekness to Merzouga, and he could show you nice places during the trip. The company can pick up you where you want, that's not a problem.

What tour company did you use? I am looking for a good one with great guides but not over the top expensive??
