Moving to Maputo - any recs?

Any recommendations for good restos, places to visit, etc for Maputo, Moz? How about weekend trips or good travel agents for the area? Would love any insight on the area and what it's like to live there.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I've only visited Maputo - not lived there, but it's a very pleasant city.

Lots of good restaurants. There's a cluster of upmarket restaurants around Nyerere Ave in the Polana district. Don't remember exact names, but the seafood restasurant next to the Panthera Azula bus depot was very good; as is the restaurant whose name is something like Mikasso.

The old town (Baixa) seemed more dead at night, but I liked Impala for Indian food, and Fierra popular at night is a fun place to hang out.

If you're into Bauhaus style architecture, Maputo is a real find. Walking around the blocks in the area between Baixa and the Polana district, you'll find many interesting buildings and Portuguese era villas.

There's supposed to be lots of good beaches in the area. I flew to the north straight from Maputo. The infrastructure is worse in the north, but Ilha de Mocambique definitely should not be missed. The beaches at Pemba were pretty decent too...
