Motswiri Camp
Selinda's Motswiri Camp is being combined with Wilderness Safaris' Ketumetse Trails camp (used on their Great Wilderness Journey overland exploration).
The new combined camp (referred to as Motswiri Ketumetsi on Selinda's web site) can be booked by small groups, families, etc., who want to have their own camp. The camp has only 4 tents but is set up for 6 guests (max 8 if needed). They are moving Motswiri away from being a camp for FITs. Apparently they feel it's just too far away and remote (therefore expensive) to run for individuals. Regards, James |
..and the other issue is - it was a hunting camp for a long time and the game is still skittish.
Geoff. |
Geoff has hit the nail slap bang on the head!
Strange name too, literally translated "Leadwood Thank You" ??? |
As one of the poor bastards who were conned into going there, I do not care what they call it. Does this mean that this exclusive area now only has two camps rather than the three that were in place when we were there? What a great improvement that will be I suppose the prices will go up as well?
|
sniktawk,
Atleast Kanawe may head back to guide at the new Zib? now that Motswiri is out of the picture ..... |
Agreed,
The area suffers from the hunting and the game is certainly skittish. However, the only way to habituate the wildlife once hunting is terminated is to conduct game drives. Guiding there at present must provide quite a challenge if more than 2 days. For some perspective, I remember quite well my first visit to Kings Pool (Sable Safaris) in the mid 90's; you couldn't find a leopard if your life depended on it - too much hunting to the west and the animals were simply too shy. Today at KP - well, leopards are seen all the time. The Ketumetse area will come around, but it will take time. James |
By the time the animals come around their prices would have doubled again!
|
If they can get twice as much, then it can only mean that the game viewing rocks.
Let's hope you are right! |
Or that they are out of touch and greedy? Hope I am wrong!
Problem is always to gauge how honest the marketing is? |
I agree - marketing is designed only to sell.
That is where a knowledgeable agent earns his/her keep. |
I just wish there were more knowledgable agents out there!
Hey maybe the Motswiri area not so great now for game but what about wilderness (not the company). I remember at the old Zib & Selinda seeing a lorry, water affairs, tsetse control & wildlife dept vehicle on one drive! Oh and I can't forget the bleeding BDF (Bots defence Farce) chasing away a Tsessebe that was about to get killed by a lioness!! I had a fantastic trip, don't get me wrong but I just felt a bit too much traffic! |
