Sounds like the vacation of a lifetime!! Im trying to plan a 6-7 day trip there the last week in April for my husband, myself and our 6 grown children. Our youngest daughter is studying abroad in London for the semester and we thought a family trip to Morocco would be exciting for all. What do you suggest for 6-7 days if I absolutely want to do the 1-2 night in the desert, sleeping in tents? Can I also fit in Marrakech and the Blue city and Fez, or is Fez just too far away. Also, as far as safety goes, we are Americans jews, used to feeling small bouts of anti-Semitism throughout Europe, anything to worry about here? I did hear that there is a small but thriving Jewish quarter with 5-6,000 Moroccan Jews.

For no reason I just happened to look back at the Morocco boards only to find these last two posts. What a coincidence.

Robin,
I just wanted to put your mind at ease regarding any anti-Semitism in Morocco. I am also Jewish, and I found the Moroccans so warm and welcoming, with a nicely surprising attitude towards the Jews that used to be part of Morocco. This article puts it better than I can:

As far as a 6 or 7-day itinerary goes, that's a tough one. We took 3 days to drive from Marrakech to Erg Chebbi, although it could have been done in less. We then took 2 days to go from Erg Chebbi to Fez, although I think most people do it in just one long day. Chefchaouen can be done as a day trip from Fez, but we chose to stay overnight. You just have to decide how much time you want to be driving around and what your priorities are. For just one week, including the desert, I personally would limit myself to just a couple destinations.

Nanbug,
Doing an internet search for Dar Neghrassi, I see they have a website with very little information. It's a very small (but packed) shop, and I don't know if they ship. We only bought a small rug that we were able to pack in our suitcase.

Happy travels and planning to you both! You are in for an amazing experience.

Thanks, Blackmons... I did find their web site originally in my search for info, but, as you say, nothing is mentioned about shipping. Since then, I've read that DHL ships quite efficiently, so we'll just pack up and mail from Fes. The shop is written up quite a bit, I'm excited to go! Happy trails!

Thanks for the great TR and comments. We're planning a trip in the spring and this is helpful.

Hi Blackmons, if you happen to check back on this thread, I’d love to talk with you. I also live in Chicago and am your age. There are a few more questions I’d like to ask you before our trip to Morocco next September. Maybe we could email. Thanks

Hi, blackmons, I just want to add my "thank you" for this lovely report. My husband and I are also planning a trip for April and I have also used your report as a guide. I'm excited about the trip and am pleased that we will also be staying in Dar Seffarine (between you and Seemskt, I was sold on it!). Sounds like you planned a great trip!

blackmons, just wanted to let you know that your wonderful TR is still being read! May plan to cut Fes to 2 nights based on your comments...long enough to enjoy the ambience of Dar Sefferine. But, I also agree that we tend to get jaded toward the end of the trip and not enjoy something as much as if it happened in the beginning. Also, think I"ll skip that camel ride completely.
