Morocco - Tangier advice in June

Hi, we are spending 10 days in Morocco in June. I know it will likely be very hot. We have basically a day and half (two nights but less than two full days) in Tangier at the start of our trip. Looking for hotel recs as well as sightseeing. It will be my husband and me. Clean and safe are very important. Looking for above budget but less than luxury. Interested in B and B/ smaller raid vs big hotel, but could be convinced. We think we want to see the cave of Hercules and American legion? Otherwise will just want to walk around and explore on our own. Will hit medina for some shopping, but thats not really our thing and would prefer to make any purchases at the end of our trip (in marrakech). So thinking something central by ferry terminal/ train is better- but again, could be convinced otherwise. Saw two places that looked promising- La Tangerina and Hotel Rembrandt. Feedback? Rembrandt has a pool which looks nice esp if it is very hot.
After Tangier we are taking the train to Fes to meet friends who live there, and then taking a tour through desert, Marrakech and Atlas Mountains. Will not see the beaches in the west or Casa/ Rabat- maybe next time!
Thanks in advance.

I've stayed twice at La Tangerina and love the place. Sort of above it all at the top of the medina, walking distance to the medina and town. Views from the roof terrace are fantastic, a great spot to hang out. It feels more like a house than a hotel as you can probably tell on the website. I recommend it.

Thanks for your advice. Do you have any suggestions for other sights to see in Tangier? We will be there one full afternoon, then a full day, then possibly a morning before we head to Fes. Also, and suggestions for tour companies in the Sahara. We were looking at Journey Beyond Travel - who seem quite knowledgable and friendly over email, but the prices quoted are a bit beyond our budget. Thanks!

I find Tangier, like other Moroccan cities, very good for wandering. In the medina and also in the new town. I had lunch at El Minzah Hotel and it was a very good experience. I was treated very well, not always the case for a 3 star woman alone at a 5 star hotel. A short walk from the medina, a recommend it. There are especially nice tables outside in the shade.

If you're going to Fes by car I'd suggest leaving one day earlier and staying in Chefchaouen a night. It's on the way, as are the Roman ruins of Volubilis on the way next day before you arrive in Fes. Both are a bit off the usual tourist track although well visited and the road that will take you to both and on to Fes is a very relaxing and scenic drive.

I'd rather the beaches in the North. Going to Marrakesh via the desert and the mountains is a good idea.

Thanks for the tips. I am looking at a few different tour companies for the trip to the Sahara and see that the prices can vary widely. Any experience with Sahara Sands, Journey Beyond Travel or Naturally Morocco? Thanks again!
