Morocco or Turkey?

My husband and I are in the midst of picking destinations for our month-long trip for spring 2007. We have decided to stay 2 weeks in Egypt, however would like to spend another 2 weeks in a different country.

After looking into other nearby countries and considering costs we have narrowed the choice down to Morocco or Turkey.

We are very much interested in a diversity of experiences: culture, exotic landscape, adventure, relaxation, great food, and decent prices.

Please provide us with some feedback on these countries that might make the decision between Morroco and Turkey more clear. Many thanks!

I have not been to Morocco, but have been to Turkey - and it is wonderful!

There is such a rich and diverse history to be see there. From the roman ruins at Ephesus, to the hot springs and travertine deposits in Pamukule, to the rock-cut dwellings in Cappedoccia, to the beautiful Mediterranean coastal towns, to the sights in Istanbul....it's a wonderful place.

Just my opinion......

I'm biased (I live in Morocco), but...

Diversity? the Atlantic and Med., snow capped mountains to palm fringed oasis, French colonialism to Islamic beauty, excellent European restaurants or street food... I could go on.

It's an amazingly varied country with a surprise round every corner. Your challenge is to combine the coast (proabably Essaouira, so some Portugese DNA to add to the mix!), Marrakech and/or Fes, a trip to the Sahara, and to experience some of the unique Berber culture in the Atlas mountains.

Mark -

You make me want to go! Sounds like the OP can't go wrong either way!!

It's a good choice to have! But Morocco impressed me so much I couldn't leave - and I'm certainly not the only one.

Mark, how are the touts and faux guides? I visited Morocco in 1994 and it was one of the most miserable experiences, so much so that I couldn't see returning. I have since been to a lot of north Africa and similar countries (such as Tunisia, Egypt, Turkey), and I have much more pleasant experiences. Is the problem with the touts and faux guides still a very bothersome one, or is it now much more manageable? I would like to return (there are lots of sites, particularly the ruins at Volubilis, that I haven't visited), but I couldn't see doing so if I was unable to wander unimpeded through the medinas? Thanks
