Morocco desert - what shoes to bring?
Hi everyone,
I'm leaving next week for a 2 week trip to Morocco. We'll be spending time in Fes, Marrakech and we're doing the camel into the desert trek. Obviously flip flops are a no-no in the desert, and I feel like sneakers would be a royal pain in the you know what. How about Keens? They're light and breathable and I don't need socks with them. However, still the issue of needing to shake sand out every 10 seconds. Any suggestions for footwear in the desert for a couple days? Thanks! |
I have a keen loafer/ballet slipper type shoe that I love, because it has the keen treads on the bottom, but does not have the holes in the sides. The style name is keen sofia or sienna.

Thanks cruisinred.
I have Keens but I've only tested them in wet climates (Daintree/Far North Queensland) but wondering if they'd be a good option for the dry climate of a desert? |
I climbed a few dunes in Morocco, and ended up taking my shoes off and walking around in socks the entire time.
The sand in the Sahara is so fine, it's very difficult to keep it out of any shoe. Also, with the sand being so soft (except the spines of the dunes), footwear was not too useful. |
Thanks Roderick!
