Morocco desert trip--worth it?
My husband and I are planning a trip to Morocco and would like to see the desert, but it requires a LOT of driving. We have limited time there so we don't want to spend most of it in a car. Has anyone stayed in the desert overnight in a berber tent? Was it worth all of the driving? If so, which desert area should we go to==Zagora or Merzouga? I have heard Merzouga is more beautiful, but much more touristy. Is it worth going to Zagora, which is much less driving?

Hello Jill, I visited Zagora in 1996 and 1999, while going dozn from Europe to Sub-Sahara Africa. I thought it was a nice place to go to. Very laid-back folks and nice desert, oases and some very basic kasbahs.
Of course, it's not travelling 3 or 4 days through the Sahara itself.
Zagora has spectacular surroundings and will please you I am sure.
Better enjoy that than driving through the country for too long.
my husband and I visited morocco several years and ago and I have ALWAYS regretted not staying overnight in the desert...we did take a trip from erfoud into the desert to see the sunrise over the dunes and I fell in love with the desert...I hope you spend a night under the desert stars!
