Moremi - Public Camp Sites

Has anyone out there been to any of the 3 public camp sites in Moremi? What can you tell me about them?

Arent there 4 campsites in Moremi? Southgate, Khwai, Xakanaka and 3rd Bridge?

Xakanaka is by far the best location and Southgate the worst.

You mean North Gate, Khwai is the community campsite outside the park, but close to North Gate.

I tend to look at the game viewing as seasonal. I concur, Xakanaka usually has the best game viewing.

I always incorrectly assumed that Khwai and North Gate were the same campsite. Thanks for the info.

Xakanaka is without doubt the prettiest and most game rich area, though we personally saw better game around North Gate

Amol,

During my last Bots visit, our plane dropped off other people at the Khwai river lodge, so when we flew over the general Khwai area there seemed to be lots of human inhabitation. Didn't look too appealing.

The Kwai campsite is about 13 kms away from all that. Some of my best ellie sightings have been in this area.

It really does depend on your luck, the last time we were at North camp, 15 wild dogs chased an Impala through the camp

Be careful about leaving your vehicle windows and tents open as the Vervet monkeys will steal everything, our troop of thieves was subsequently "mugged" by Baboons for their spoils.

Hari

Youre right, there is a village just north of the wooden pole bridge, but to me that was an opportunity to see how the locals lived and an unstaged interaction opportunity without it being called a 'cultural experince'

In terms of game, we saw lions fighting and thwarting off a coalition of 2 males trying to take over a pride. To find angry lions fighting just 5 metres away was breathtaking..
