money transfers

Just wondering if anyone has experienced delays with wire transfers to Tanzania. What is the usual time delay to hear if your funds have been received? Am I overly anxious because no word yet after 72 hours?

If wires sent before 3pm or 6pm (depending on your financial institution), it should be received following day. After those hours, than 2/days.

Once received on the other end, it will depend on when bank advises the operator and the operator advises you.

It's there by now, but no harm sending an email asking for confirmation.

Nothing to worry about....Swift transfer, right?

Your bankers will first inform you that the payment went thru......then it may take a couple of days for the amount to show up at their end.

I dont know about Tanzania....but, i assume similar to anywhere else. Sometimes their bankers may have a branch in NYC or London and you can get your bank to check with that location with regards to your transfer.......

Some banks are better than others.

But nowadays my wires from the US arrive within 2 business days to Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania - for my bank the cutoff time for next day arrival is 2pm.

Hari, US banks typically notify the sender when wired was sent, but they don't have insight into when it actually arrives in the destination account. That information normally requires a trace process which can take weeks in itself!.

It is the responsibility of the Sender to notify the Receiver when the wire was sent. The Receiver must then notify the Sender when the funds appear in the account. Receivers don't typically check their accounts daily either.

So it can take more than 2 days in most cases to get a final notification from the Receiver.

As Eben mentions, always advise the other end when you send a wire. Sent wires Wed night; confirmation today, Friday morning that they've been received in Kenya & Tanzania.

From UK Barclays to Kenya Barclays, the best result with a swift transfer that I ever get is 4 working days. Although thats not Tanzania, I wouldn't be losing any sleep yet. Sandi seems to be able to get a right result in getting it through in 2days. I feel a Tourettes moment coming on when I next see my Bank Manager ! x

Most of my wires are received within 2/days in Africa; some in only 1/day. But recently one went astray, but eventually located and applied properly.

Recall receiving a wire from client, who from the time he advised by email it had been sent, when I checked my account... there is was, the fastest transfer ever (about 2-4/hrs).

Check on Monday
