thanks, guys!
It has been Christmas day here today chez momliz, since Santa comes early so we don't have to schlepp the presents along. He brought binoculars, solar battery chargers, a portable DVD player and games for handheld gaming devices.
I am worrying since we went to our family physician rather than a travel clinic, and so we are taking Lariam rather than Malarone. But, so far no side effects (other than some gas, but most of the family thinks that's hilarious).
What else can I worry about?
Whew - I couldn't have done this without all of your help, even if I was just lurking. You all are the greatest!

I did Larium for years with zero problems. I always have vivid dreams (a known side effect) and my vegetable based diet produces some gas anyway so I never noticed an increase in that.
Maybe Santa could throw in some Bean-o as an afterthought.

I've taken Larium on every safari I've been on without problems. "Larium dreams" are the only side effect I've noticed, and make for an interesting night or two! My sister also took Larium on her first safari, but had major problems with Malarone on her second, so you just never know. The problems included constant nausea and dizziness. A second person on the side trip had the same problems and her doc switched her to Larium when she got home to finish off her malaria protection.

Omigosh - we leave the house in an hour and a half!! I was obsessively rechecking the lists I have made, then decided - that's it, if I don't have it, too bad. I have packed money, my prescription meds, glasses, tickets and vouchers. That's all we really need.
Oh, and my ipod, with books loaded on it (The Ghost in Love & Sense and Sensibility), and another book (John Grisham) for the plane.
See you all in a few weeks - I Am So Excited!!!
