Mombo's Steroid Boys

As posted on the WS website today:
This week was a sad one for cheetah at Mombo. One of the famed 'Steroid' boys, which many guests have been privileged to see at Mombo died. We are uncertain of the cause of death, but he was found earlier in the week with blood covering his face and mouth. We assume that he was attacked by another predator.

The two cheetah males that formed this coalition have been dominant in the Mombo region for the past 10 years, a long time in an area so densely populated with predators, and have been formidable hunting partners during this time. They have been well documented in various publications over the years, including a cover feature in National Geographic a few years ago. They have been photographed and admired by many guests over the years, and while this is how nature works, we're still sad to see the end of an era.

End of an era indeed and a sad year for cheetah brothers - the threesome often seen in the Savuti/ King's Pool area also lost one of their number this year.

Part of the natural cycle but a loss that touches those of us who have seen the individuals nonetheless.

But there was a terrific amount of good news contained in the various WS updates about how well the dogs are doing in many areas.

How's the new arrival ?

Logan is now on his eleventh day... eating and sleeping mainly. Nicky and I are sleeping less than we've been used to. I'm once again on a nice steep learning curve and loving every minute
