Mkombe Mniko - Tribute to Tanzania safari guide
I know there are many travelers who will be very saddened to learn that Mkombe Mniko has passed away. He is mentioned often online as a wonderful safari guide in Tanzania. We spent 2 weeks with him in 2004 and again in 2005 during the migration in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area, seeing breathtaking sights while he was a top guide for Nomad Tanzania. We respected his amazing talent for tracking and spotting and his love of the wildlife. He was a kind, intelligent and caring person who shared his gift with many people.
We just heard this sad news today from his fiance, who said he was taken ill in April and was treated in Arusha and Nairobi, but lost his fight and passed away in May just days before their wedding.

Here is a link to one of my favorite pictures of Mkombe.
http://gallery.mac.com/beth.smith#10...gcolor=blackOn On 3 separate days in the Serengeti, 3 male cheetahs climbed on our vehicle and one of them seemed incredibly enamored with Mkombe and spent hours staring at him from the roof hatch. Mkombe's full name was Mkombe Mniko Bugingo, and he was one of a kind.
Other wonderful Nomad guides like Emmanuel will attest to this.

We all form lasting bonds with our Guides/Drivers and I am sorry to hear of your loss. The photo you posted of Mkombe will be a reminder of the friend you lost. He certainly did look very happy in this photo.
