Yvone, if i remember correctly you were going to be travelling as a family? What age are your children?

Pemba Beach is a mainland resort, quite a large hotel with a reasonable selection of actvities and certainly in an interseting area/town of Mozambique. An excusrion that I found particularly interesting was a visit to the local cashew factory, I now know why they are so damned expensive!

I have been and have to say that I was not that impressed. I didn't enjoy the size of the hotel 7 I thought the beach was a little unattractive, however that is relative to Matemo Island and Mudjembe Islands, both Rani Resorts.
Both of these are not far from and accessible by air from Pemba. I would recommend staying at Mudjembe as it is really a boutique property with only about 13 suites. It has just opened & while I haven't stayed there a friend of mine returned earlier this week and with his sunburnt nose has not stopped raving about the experience. His only gripe is that it should perhaps offer a fully inclusive tariff, drinks and all, because that is the sort of service the property offers.

Your challenge staying at these properties is their location. They are right up north in Zambia, so reaching there is expensive, that said there are daily flights from Maputo to Pemba. There are three flights a week from Dar es Salaam and those are only 45 minutes!

Also I do know that Airwaves, based in Zambia can fly you from Mfuwe to Pemba: I don't know the cost and suspect that if there aren't any passengers filling the plane on the return leg that this would effect the price too.

HHope that helps, holler if you need further insights.

Just wondering, are there any flights from Lusaka to Dar? Then one could connect to Pemba

I will check that, Nationwide, a South African based carrier has "talked" of opening a route that links JNB, LVi, LUS, Mfuwe to Dar. I do not know if that ever came to fruition.

funny just called my friend to see if he had any insights on the air, he is doing some research to as he is planning a trip to Selous and then down to Mudjembe for next year and considered this a great routing.

Cruisinred.
there is a flight, but it is via Nairobi with Kenya Airways. Dar es Salaam-Nairobi-lusaka. , the reverse, takes you Lusaka - Nairobi- Dar..Not ideal given that you could probably also go Dar-JNB-LUS
