Mirgration Status/Honey's Cubs

The following was posted on CC Africa's website "Wildwatch" under Migration and Sightings @ Kichwa Tembo:

Wildebeest Crossing - Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
2007-05-18

The westward march continues. The mega-herd is now happily grazing the plains approximately 35 km from Grumeti River Camp and 15 km from Mbalageti, where one of CC Africa's Serengeti Under Canvas camps will be situated this coming weekend. The countless animals have now taken over the entire Musabi and Mbalageti plains, blissfully munching the lush green grasses. On Wednesday, guests arriving at Seronera were stopped by herds of wildebeest and zebra that were crossing the road and blocking their way back to Camp! They waited as animals in the thousands passed by, and even witnessed a kill while they waited! Two young male lions feasted on a baby wildebeest, and greedily went in for another successful kill as the herds passed by.

Honey's Cubs:

Very Happy Ending!!
The mother died early in February 2007. The game rangers were there to help the 3 cubs by at least killing the tommy gazelles for them once a week. BUT on 7th May 2007 during the morning game drive with the guests, the 3 cubs were spotted! They had killed a mature impala - which was not an easy job for them - as they had to struggle with the impala for more than ten minutes! The three cubs managed at long last with maximum effort! After killing, they started eating right there on the spot and after almost an hour, they were full! It did not take long before the vultures arrived... The guests and I counted more than 48 vultures which were white backed vultures and 2 lappet-faced vultures. An Amazing Sighting!!!!.

Hope the cubs remain successful in their hunts!!

No, never did find out. The forthcoming announcement was never made, to my knowledge.

No announcement yet on the "official" death of Honey. Just to let everyone know that they are many people that are working very, very hard for the truth to be known. All I can say at this point is that THIS must never happen again. I'll keep you all posted.
