Mini Camcorder on Safari

Can anyone recommend a mini camcorder to use on safari? We are not camera buffs, so we are looking for something that is easy to use. We would like to keep the price in the $500 range. We would like a decent zoom lens as well as a stabilizing feature.

Also, should we take along two 4 hour batteries, or use two hour batteries?

The camcorder that we used is a Canon ZR70MC and has 22x optical zoom. It's pretty easy to operate. I believe the price is down to less than $400 now.

Forgot to mention, I think the standard battery is 2 hours and we purchased an extended battery and carried both. We rarely had to use the back up one as we were able to recharge the battery back at camp.
