medical insurance help please

Travelling to Botswana, SA and Zambia for two weeks in October. I need to purchase medical insurance. Any recommendations ?

Only medical insurance? Or trip cancellation & interruption which includes medical and evacuation?

Check: www.insuremytrip.com

You'll find a number of the well-known insurance providers; just plug in your information and they'll do a cost comparison for you. Do be certain to read details of what is excluded - pre-existing medical conditions, reasons for cancelling or delays, interruption, bankruptcy, terrorism, etc. All policies are not the same. On average the cost is about 6% per $100 of prepaid vacation costs or value of coverage otherwise.

For upcoming trip to Botswana, purchased a $1 million policy for 15 days which provides among other things private medical evactuation and treatment plus a small life insurance segment - for two people, $195 total. The TravelGuard group, part of MultiNational Underwriters. www.mnui.com. Recommended by my travel agent. Completed everything in 5 minutes on-line, and they mailed cards, etc. to me.

Thanks for the info.

Sandi - only medical because trip is a gift so don't really need trip cancellation !

kb - gift or not, someone is paying for the trip, the insurance company doesn't ask who paid for the trip. I'd still want to be covered for flight delay (if not travelling on FF tickets), lost or delayed baggage, interruption should one of you have an accident and you can't continue, or should you have to be evacuated and need two first class air tickets for that broken leg in a cast. Not wishing this on you, but you should consider all possibilities. But, if medical only covers also for evacuation, then you're ok.

Sandi,

Yes I am going to ensure that medical covers evacuation. As we are planning to do much of our trip last minute I don't feel the need for cancellation etc. For the paid/gift portion of our trip - three nights in Londolozi - I will be there come hell or high water !

I too would be come hell or high water if going to Londolozi. Have a great time and report back when you return. Happy Travels.
