Mbalageti - Sunrise or Sunset?
 

We hope to be spending 3 nights at Mbalageti on our next trip to Tanzania in June/July 2008. For those who have stayed at Mbalageti, would you recommend the sunrise or sunset tent location? Are there advantages of one over the other? Would you recommend any particular tent?

Not trying to criticize, but, wouldnt you rather be out in the bush for both sunrise and sunset times?

Depends on whether you prefer to wake on the Sunrise side to another day of safari ahead you. Or sleep on the sunset side after a full day of safari.

Sunsets are beautiful, and you'll see plenty of them during your entire trip; personally I like to know I have another day in front of me.

You can't go wrong with either, the tented chalets are lovely either side.

Hari, it is against Serengeti regulations to be out after sunset or before sunrise, so I'm usually in camp for those times although our vehicle was usually the first to leave and the last one in every day :)

Ok, i get it now.......

In that case, you may as well enjoy the best views possible from camp also....

Calo, I haven't stayed at Mbalageti (sigh), but I prefer sunrise. Think of the hushed "Jambo, jambo," waking you up, and your tea, coffee and biscuits on your verandah, and the sunrise and the sounds of the Serengeti. And there you are fully rested, not yet covered in dust, and you can truly enjoy it.

Brings back wonderful memories - we were there in July. The beauty of early morning coffee and a quietly spectacular sunrise from your verandah will be a keeper. Personally, we enjoyed sundowning at the pool, a view all around, the sounds of the migration down below, wonderful nibblies provided. Our chalet had a sunken tub on the verandah for late night star gazing. Trip report is "safari mzuri"
