May trip to Cairo

We are considering a trip to Cairo mid-May. What type of weather can we expect? We would like to travel through Amsterdam and spend two days there as well. How many days/nights will we need in Cairo to see the sights. What about a short Nile cruise? We thought about 9 days total, which would leave 6 or 7 days in Cairo/Alexandria. Enough?

Thank you for your assistance and expertise.

You can do 3-days Cairo (2-days at beginning, 1-day at the end); you can do a day-trip to Alexandria, but it will be a very long day; then overnight train or fly to Luxor for your remaining 3-days.

Day 1-Cairo - Pyramids, Giza, Museum
Day 2-Cairo - Memphis, Saqqara, Old Cairo
Day 3-Alexandria - long full day
Day 4-Fly to Luxor - very early flight - over three days you can visit the Valley of Kings & Queens, Karnak Temple, Luxor Museum, Luxor Temple, hot air balloon, light & sound show one evening
Day 5-Luxor
Day 6-Luxor - late (7-8pm) flight to Cairo
Day 7-Cairo - to see whatever you missed or wish to spend more time then on first two days.

If you have to eliminate anything, it would be I'd Alexandria. An alternative to Alexandria is going out to one of the oasis' west of Cairo (can't think of the name, but it's not Bahariya)

It will generally be hot in Egypt, Alexandria might be cooler on the Mediteranean, as will be Cairo, especially the nights. The heat will be on in/around the Luxor area, though the nights cool down a bit.

As to whether 6 or 7 days are enough? There's never enough time one can spend in Egypt - you've got 5,000 years of history to discover!
