Mauritius, Rodrigues and Reunion: three different islands to see!

We<are back from a three weeks trip to the Mascaregne islands.
We spent our time visiting Rodrigues, Reunion and Mauritius.
Beautiful places, beaches and People.
Rodrigues is small and still out of tourists’ crowd. Very “basic” but very nice and interesting (they say that Rodrigues is like Mauritius twenty years ago…. before the invasion of big hotels and resorts). We enjoyed a b.& b. called “La colliniere”, visit the island portral www.rodrigues-island.org.
Reunion is incredible; a piece of France in the Indian ocean with mountains 3000 meters high, a volcano, forests and waterfalls… only few kilometres from nice beaches!
Mauritius has the best beaches but, in our opinion, is less interesting than the other two islands. One of the best thing we appreciated in Mauritius has been our lodging: we found a small hotel close to one of the best beach (Belle Mare, east coast near Flacq)that gave us a really good value for the money we paied. ASSO VILLA (owned by Mr. Asso Kutthur, e-mail [email protected]) for less than 50 dollars per day in half-board gives you a clean room, really very good Italian / creole / Indian food (Mr. Asso spent some years in a kitchen in Italy, his “spaghetti with seafood” are fantastic also for Italians!) and, on top of that a really familiar atmosphere.

Again: we did a very nice trip in very, very nice places with a good hospitality.

Ciao.

We were in Mauritius exactly one year ago on our honeymoon. We really enjoyed it even though we felt that the beaches were not as great as some other places we stayed. We stayed in a private villa with its own pool at The Oberoi.

Gianni, thanks, I have long been interested in visiting those islands, and I have had the same understanding about Mauritius (less interesting) as you. I was in Madagascar in May and we thought about adding some days and traveling to Reunion, but there was too much to see in Mad and we didn't want to cut that short.

Thanks, Michael
