Matemwe Beach Village?

Has anyone stayed at Matemwe Beach Village? How was it? We will be spending 3 days in Zanzibar after safari and are looking for a place that would allow us to go for some good diving. Matemwe area sounds like the best place for diving around Mnemba atoll. Don't need luxury, but would like a place that's comforable enough. Another consideration is Matemwe Bungalows, but after talking them it turns out all of their rooms are suites now and at $165 per person per night is a bit too much for us. If the M. Beach Village is good enough, we'd rather stay there. Has anyone found it to be too basic and spartan? How's the beach? Can you swim from the beach or are there problems with urchins and seaweed? Also, is there any snorkelling off the beach or do you have to go out by boat? Our priorities (besides a good dive location) are pleasant rooms with comfortable bed, and a great beach. Just don't want to feel like we are staying at a hostel.
So many questions...
