Masai Visit

From Nyrobi Kenya, what is the best way to visit a Masai tribe?

Hi Tom,

The Maasai are one tribe divided into various sections. I suppose you want to visit a traditional homestead - enkang. There are organised “cultural manyatta visits” for tourists – it’s as touristy as it sounds - in the Mara and Amboseli. In Samburu you can visit the Samburu who are a different tribe, but closely related to the Maasai. There are many Maasais living in Nairobi. A big part of the population of Kiserian to the south of Nairobi is Maasai. If you step into a bar there you’ll most probably meet some Maasais. Along the Magadi road almost all people are very traditionally looking Maasai. When you make a stop along that road, women and children will find you and try to sell you beadwork. If you’re nice and polite and pay a decent sum they might let you see their homestead. I don’t know if the Maasais near Nairobi have any “cultural manyatta visit” set-ups. There’s probably something, though I can’t find it. Maybe someone else knows.
