Marriott Hotels in Cairo?

I will be using Marriott points and would like to know the best property for tourist activity and location. Thank you for your insight.

Where?

Cairo, I thought I posted that, sorry.

You might want to ask the moderators to tag your thread for Egypt (and even edit your title if that is possible)

A thread titled 'Hotels' is ambiguous enough, but not tagged for a country makes it even more so.

We have edited your title and tagged the thread for Egypt.

The Fabled Mena House hotel, right next to the pyramids, is now a Marriott. You could stay part of your time there (I would!). In the city, there is a new St. Regis as well as a Ritz-Carleton

Mena House

How many nights/days is adequate for the Mena house and seeing the pyramids? Should I split my time equally to Marriott Cairo or stay more at one of the properties? Will be there for 8 nights. Thank you for your help.

Mena House is in nicer, quieter part of Cairo and not that far from places you may want to visit in the city. Taxis are inexpensive and I'd recommend just staying there and enjoying it. I doubt you'll gain enough if you move to make it worthwhile considering the down sides of more central Cairo.

we stayed recently at mena house and found it fantastic, even for an older hotel... we stayed 2 nights or maybe 3. did not sightsee--been there before.

the Marriott by the airport is a fab hotel, especially if you have Marriott status.

lots of security every place---think machine guns and bomb sniffing dogs.

we spent a month in Egypt and felt safe

In my experience traffic into town on the road from the airport is worse than from Giza / Mena House, if you want to see things in town.

Mena House is the best choice

Two or at most three nights is sufficient for Cairo. If you stay at the Mena House, I'd stay there the whole time and go into the city for sightseeing; crushing traffic really makes it less pleasant to spend more time in the center of the city. There are certainly things to see in Cairo, but you can see the highlights in a day (the Egyptian Museum and the old part of Cairo), or two days tops if you stay three nights. You need just one day for the pyramids and sphinx, another if you want to go out to Dahshur, but few people do; you can see Saqqara and Memphis in another half-day because they are closer to Giza. Just realize there are no pyramids once you leave Cairo. Save the rest of your time to visit Luxor or Aswan or both.

I stayed 4 nights in Cairo, so had 3 full days for sightseeing. One day for pyramids at 2 locations, 1 day for Old Cairo including historic houses open to the public and the last for the Egyptian Museum plus one more historic house. It was perfect for me.
