Marrakech, Atlas Mtn Hike, Sahara, Essaouira?

I am traveling to Morocco in mid August and am trying to get a grasp on how long it takes to travel around, and if we should hire a guide the entire time?

Our goal is to see/enjoy Marrakech, hike the Atlas Mtn for a day, stay overnight in the Sahara (or do a day trip.. any recommendations?), and then relax along the water in Essaouira for a few days.

Is 6-7 days enough time???

Does anyone have any recommendations on guides, tours, hotels?

You may want to rethink this trip.

Morocco will be sweltering in August -- well over 100F. The desert is a very long day's drive from Kech. Most people do it in two days. A day trip is impossible. They may not even be running bivouacs, given the heat.

Essaouira is a charming town, but the wind can be fierce so it is not usually thought of as a beach town except by wind surfers.

Be better if you could schedule the trip for late September, early October. You'll probably still have to drop either the desert or the sea.

I visited late May.

Marrakech was sweltering by afternoon, but our pool inside our riad (Riad Malika: fabulous!) was very pleasant in the afternoon. 2-3 days was sufficient.

We hired a driver to Essaouira. The drives was a few hours, including the 10-minute police shakedown. The weather there was pleasant. 2 days was sufficient. Visiting the hammam was the highlight of that town. Walking around was nice.

Kasbah du Toubkal in the Atlas Mountains was the best part of the trip. We hired a driver to take us there from Essaouira -- a couple hour drive. Two days was fine, and we used a guide from the hotel for hiking. Marrakech is less than an hour away. The temperature was pleasant (we got a little hot hiking in the afternoon).
