Man drowns on honeymoon trip in Aswan

Did anyone else read in the UK Telegraph newspaper about the freak storm on the Nile near Aswan that swamped a felluca and a UK man drowned? It appears that a strange storm came up suddenly with unbelieveable winds at around 3am that caused a Nile cruiser felluca that was moored to fill with water and cause a 31 year old UK teacher to save his wife and two others while being stuck under the deck and drown. So sad!

Did not read about it.

Hopefully someone will post it on line

Thansk for telling us

I tried to get the article to transfer but it won't go. Just go to today's UK telegraph and it is on there. It happened earlier this week and the Egyptian papers have nothing about it.For those of us who have been recently to Aswan,it is unbelievable that such a freak storm would occur?

Thanks Wombat for the link. I was reading the UK TELEGRAPH newspaper article as that was quite detailed with just the Aswan drowning-I keep trying to send it over.

Very Sad and such weird extreme circumstances.

What a very very sad story. The poor woman. I can't even begin to imagine...

andrys Jan 22nd, 2010 09:15 PM

Kavey,
Me too - the worst thing that could happen and it happens on a trip - and it got worse later when she tried to get on the cruise ships after having no communications at the hotel where she'd been dropped off at, and was turned away by cruise ship officers, presumably because of the mud on her still from trying to save him. Worse, the treatment by the officers at the scene.

Sharm el-Sheikh was hit pretty hard too - we were there in that very beautiful place for about 3 days.

What are you talking about andrys? Where did you find this follow up story that you are talking about?

andrys Feb 6th, 2010 07:10 PM

Casual_Cairo,
Apologies - there is no way that I know of that the forum lets us know there's a question waiting for us and I just got back here about 15 days later.

Wombat7's shortcut to The Telegraph story has the follow-up details at http://tiny.cc/AA30N ...
