Malaria in Namibia?

Is Etosha a malaria area? The information on a couple of Namibia web sites that I've looked at is ambiguous.

Thanks for any help.

You can look on the CDC web site, which sometimes overdoes the "recommended category" I take malarone with me, and talk to the locals when I go and then start it if they think the mosquitoes are biting. (By the way, I am an M. D.)

Yes, the CDC website is what I would call "over cautious" -- it says don't drink South African tap water, which is sort of like saying don't drink American tap water.

Is Malarone available in southern Africa? It seems like it's easier to deal with than mefloquine or doxycycline.

meflaquine is not worth the psychotic dreams and doxy gave me the worse sun reaction: I blistered purple even with sun bloc. I have no idea if it is available in SA. Check out the online drugstores if not.

Kim

When I was in SA and went to the pharmacy to ask for malarone it was not available but it could have been just that particular store. All my friends were on the once a week pill-I was the only one on malarone. Patricia
