Jeez 902,

You ask a silly question "X or Y?" (both very expensive places), and then you answer your own question. Yawn.

Anyway, out come some of the MalaMala/Singita/Londolozi adepts. I have a different opinion, so I react as well. Oops that was apparently not allowed, as indeed this was again one of those "lets glorify the most expensive place in Sabi Sands" threads. And even more wrong of me was answering to 1ladyrep's question (a genuine question on Fodors ...well I hope, haha).

Such long toes here. This place has gone downhill fast.

Apparently I "brag" about my maps, because I bring them up once every two months or so? (I think it's even less than that)
And I mention them in a thread that can very much use that info by the way. If that is "bragging", then what are all these threads about the same expensive lodges that are mentioned over and over and over?

And who is behind these threads? I think I'm about the only guy here without a hidden agenda. As I said; I focus on Dutch speaking customers only. And yes, I use Sun, and I allowed them to use my maps. And I sometimes recommend them. But I also use other companies, and recommend them too. For example; for Botswana, I'd choose a private mobile tented trip with Ewan Masson above all expensive lodges. There. You can now start a flame war about that too. See me care.

Ciao,

J.

Thanks 4 bringing some humor in this thread, Tom. Brought a smile to my face.

But my remark was valid I think. Too many TA's trying to push the most expensive box over the counter. ;-)

As a retired USA judge I think your remarks are that of a guilty person.
You see a guilty person is always quick to defend with many, many versions of stories and so forth whilst an innocent person really does not know what to say. You just slipped a third time.

"See me care" You should care son.

So, all those people that came in front of you and proved that they had nothing to hide... you convicted them because of the simple fact that they defended themselves?

Some "judge"! lol!

I think you're a car salesman. After all, on the internet, everyone can be what he want. Last time I checked, on the internet men are men, women are men, and children are FBI agents.

I look forward to your "many many stories" on why exactly the most expensive lodges are the only ones where the wildlife resides. Until that time; over and out.

Congratulations on Marula Lodge and I certainly hope it goes very well for you, although I hope you don't treat guests who disagree with you with disdain the way you post here.

Something to seriously consider.

Best of Luck

With disdain?? The way I post??
Seriously mate, show me where I did that.
If true then I am deeply sorry.

I wrote two very long posts which I hope are very informative, thanking others for their good input, and merely adding my own viewpoint again. As I said, this is not an "me against them" thing. There's something there for everyone.

Then out of the blue came your remark about my maps ("I wonder and wonder I do"). Who should think about the way they post here?

Jochen I always find your posts informative, your photography amazing and I refer to the traversing maps often.

We're all quite capable of deciding what type of African experience suits each one of us best and the more informed the better your decisions.

Best of luck with Marula, it sounds great!

Hey Kath,

I'd never think otherwise! And you will never hear me say that other people's choices are crap. See my "bottom line" statement in one of my posts above.

I'm sorry for the fact that I keep replying, but I can't stand injustice. Seems like every time I get the heat here, just because I voice an opinion that's different than the average Fodorite.

Ciao,

Let's have a sing-a-long, Kath!

I appreciate the "chapter" on the accolades for Mala Mala. I appreciate the "chapter" containing the extensive responses from PixelPower describing other options in the Sabi Sands.

You are in direct violation of Fodors Rules by continuously promoting Sun Safaris of which I do beleive you have an interest in.

Ok, time for the sing-a-long guys. Who's starting?

Continuous promoting? Perhaps in one post every two months or so I mention that company. Can you point me to a previous threads? Care to share the dates?

Interest in? Sun Safaris is not my company, I am not employed by the company, I do not have a share in the company.

I send customers to them, yes. But as said; these are Dutch-speaking customers, not people from on these boards. If I were looking for customers here, I wouldn't say a word about Sun (as to have the customer come to me instead of directly to them). I'm laughing because lots of people on these boards work this way, I guess I get the heat from them as well, regularly, as they don't like the people to know you can deal with local firms directly.

You know, perhaps I'm raving about Sun since I like what they do, that is true. But not more than you rave about Mala Mala.

I also Rave about Ewan Masson in Botswana, and particular lodges throughout Africa that have nothing to do with Sun (Hoodia, Sibavati River Lodge, Shindzela and Grootberg Lodge for example). Can I please? Is this not the place to share your enthusiasm?

Seriously; if you're looking to expose people with a hidden (sales) agenda; I'm about the only one you shouldn't focus on. As at least what I do and what I say is completely clear. I mentioned my website in a previous post.

Ciao,

J.

PS. If anyone starts with "Kumbaya" I'm outta here!

You just slipped up a 4th time. You now admit to sending Dutch Clients to Sun and surely you must be compensated for that because if not then you are a fool. So what is the conclusion. We all have our favourite outfitters but we don't push it like you do. I personally have used Celeste at Taga Safaris Africa for our past 3 safaris and I can rave about her.
You seem like a nice guy who loves Africa but get the ethics in order son.

>>if not then you are a fool.

There's only one person slipping here, and that's you. For only understanding what I do now, when I mentioned it a couple of times before. And for your choice of language, above.

Conclusion?

Maybe the conclusion is that I am a fool then, for helping out people who seek safari advice. Maybe I do so, because I believe that getting as much people to Africa as possible is the only way to make them care about nature, and to save that nature.

And have you thought of this one; maybe I hope that my own camp can be marketed by them one day, so I send them some customers now, as to bond with them. After all, I consider them to be my friends. How about that huh?

I can in all honesty say that so far no cash has gone from them to me. So don't speak to me about ethics. Put your hand on your head and look who's underneath it. You judge me before you know the facts. You could have just asked in a polite manner. You said you are a retired judge?? I sure hope your career was short then.

My turn to give you some advice; 1) get off my back, and 2) stop with posting childish threads such as this one (asking a question, answering it yourself, and not allowing other opinions).

Ok, but how about gathering 'round the campfire--no singing I promise--for a drink? Maybe at Marula Camp?
