Hello Tracy
We did Makutsi for 6 days in 2005. Accommodation and game drives were good - downright exciting at times, but we found the food a little disappointing, and the hosts a little off handed. Others there at the same time found the food to be OK. Animals in the area were exciting at times with a pride of lions and a hippo in between the units at times. All in all, a good experience. |
hmmmm..what was wrong with the food?? And what do u mean that the hosts were off handed??
It looks like it would be a lovely place to stay... Can u tell me a little more good things about it?? (like what were the accomodations like, thermal pools, Kruger Park, etc) |
Hello again Tracy
Well - Good points. The rooms are fine - big, spacious and comfortable. The grounds of the actual resort are very attractive. The animal quality and quantity is excellent - although it is like you are in a large zoo - with electric fences all around - admittedly a very big area. Lions came right into the camp one night and we had to be shuffled back to the units in vans (in any event, you cant move around the area at night). We also experienced a walk in to 2 cheetah and that was very thrilling. The bad The food is ordinary. Breakfast is OK, but dinner - while a 3 course affair was disappointing. First course was grated beetroot EACH night! Meat was tough. Wildebeest Liver, Warthog etc. Desert was usually a fruit slice. Staff were off handed - didn't listen to requests, everything costs extra etc. Kruger day was a complete waste of time, but I knew before I left that Kruger can be like that. Pot luck. We went to 6 different camps. in East Afric, Zimbabwe adn SA. Makutsi is the only one we would not return to. But hey, you may enjoy it. Good luck. |
Thanks....u certainly don't make it sound very appealling!! I was reading other forums and they seemed to like it alot more...Including someone that went there for their honeymoon and said it was amazing..
But i know we all have different opinions...Quality of food would be a big thing though as there is no where else to eat!! Ha..maybe i could loose some weight! Well anyhow, we haven't booked it yet, still wating to see if there is availability for our dates..but thanks for your input!! |
