Lusaka Hotel Suggestions?

I have finalized a 3 week itinerary in Zambia for October, including Kafue, NLNP, and SLNP. My arrival in-country has me overnighting in Lusaka. My TA has suggested either the Taj Pamdozi (at US$290) or the Holiday Inn (at US$245). I avoid these types of hotel prices when travelling anywhere, especially when I will be spending, at most, 7 hours in a Lusaka hotel. Aside from sleeping at the airport, any suggestions on more modestly priced accomodation for a 9:00pm flight arrival and an outgoing flight the next morning at 7:00am? Thanks...

Hi Rick,
Do you have a Bradt guide of Zambia? It lists a few hotels out of the high priced range. I've only stayed at the InterContinental but here's some webpages in case you don't have the guide.
www.chrismar.co.zm
www.gardengroupzambia.com
www.fairview.co.zm (I couldn't get this webpage to open but if you google Fairview Hotel Lusaka you'll get some idea.
Hope this helps

Ric I have stayed at the Holiday Inn in Lusaka, but last year in October stayed at at the Cresta Golfview Hotel for $140/night. Its closer to the airport than the Holiday Inn and the rooms were similar. They provided a shuttle to and from the airport for about $11 each way.

Hi Rick,

Your trip sounds good ..... Never been to Zambia, besides the falls .... intrigued about Kafue. Where in Kafue are you going to, if you don't mind my asking?

Thanks for the suggestions folks, I will check those out. My SLNP operator has also suggested the Wayside Guesthouse (B&B) at just US$85 to 100: http://tinyurl.com/33fmhf

Hari, in Kafue I am doing a WS package of 7 nights split between 3 camps in Northern Kafue: Lufupa Camp, Musanza Tented Camp, and Lunga River Lodge. There's a description and a cartoon map here: http://tinyurl.com/38eqox

I have the same issue - will be barely 11 hrs overnight in Lusaka. My Zambian guide recommended Cresta Golfview. 2009 rate is $190.

In November, 2006, I booked online a room at Chrismar Hotel, Lusaka, which, apparently, the Bradt guide mentions. The pick-up I had expected at the airport did not happen and, after several calls, I took a taxi. I did not like the atmosphere, the location, or anything else about the place. Even though it was afternoon, my room was not ready and I was shown an alternative that was grim. I decided not to stay, although I had already registered, so I paid one-half (US$51) of the first night's lodging and went to the Taj Pramodzi. Now, that's a real hotel! I say this as one who ordinary wants to stay in small, family places. My bill for three nights, including some meals, was $662.30, an extravagance, but the options in Lusaka, as far as I know, are few (I visited there first in 1971). I stayed at a guest house several years ago, but it would not serve your purposes now. I've only been in the Holiday Inn (in November, 2006). It is OK, as far as I know. ZZ
