Luggage Weight Confusion

Does the 22- 26 lbs wieght allowance when one is flkying between camps include your carry on day pack or just the duffel?

matnikstym Apr 23rd, 2006 05:58 PM

I've only had my duffels weighed, both times I've been under the limit. If they weighed my backpack with photo equipment, sundries, medicines, books, binoculars etc, i would have been over. But since i am nowhere near the 220# weight limit where you have to buy 2 seats on the plane, i wasn't worried.

13 moons, Technically, yes the weight limit does apply to all your luggage including your carryon. But I haven't had my backpack weighed yet. Are you traveling in Botswana? Because they have upped the weight limit to 44lbs.

Lin -- Who in Botswana has upped their limits? My recent info from CC Africa still said 10 KG per person. Thanks.

I think Wilderness increased the limits recently......but you need to double chk. They use sefofane charters.....

Yes. I just got my travel documents from WS. In Namibia, the limit is still 26 lbs. In Botswana, it's 20K's.

I haven't figured out why WS increased the weight limits to 20kg on their Sefofane flights. In February, we flew on the same Cessnas as we did in 2000 when the weight limits were 12 kg.

WS now own Sefofane, they increased the weight limit because they never put more than four people in the small Cessna, when in theory it holds five. Also they are using the Caravan's more and more.

Actually, we had the full 6 seats filled on one of our flights, the "5th" passenger being an additional pilot training the guy flying the plane. He didn't have luggage, however. Before anyone panics, the pilot knew how to fly; he apparently was being trained to find his way around the Delta.

On our Dec trip to Kwando, we had 4 ppl on our flight......since the flight had lots of stuff for their camps and we had may be one xtra bag.....they did fly it in to the camp on the next flight for no extra charge. The bag was placed in the room while we were out on the evening game drive. They use Moremi air. I guess, it's just the luck of the draw.....

According to my (very reputable) travel agent, not only have the baggage limits in Botswana been increased to 44 lbs but also in Namibia - effective soon. She's checking for me. And yes, it does depend upon which services are used i.e. Sefofane definitely. I'm going to ask my agent to find out which companies now offer this increased allowance for the board's info, although some of you seem to have direct information yourselves.
