luggage storage at airport

Hi-
We'll be in SA for 2 weeks and then going to Botswana for a week. We understand the importance of packing light for the small planes and are wondering if there is a place at the Johannasberg airport where we can leave our extra luggage? Thanks- Cindy

There's a left luggage kiosk in the International Arrivals area. For a week, it won't be cheap though -- I seem to remember paying about R200 to store a bag for a couple of days.

Cheers,
Julian

Are you staying in the same hotel on your return that you're using outbound? We stayed at the airport Holiday Inn before going to Botswana for a few days, and they were happy to store our bags (free) until we returned for another night at the HI. Otherwise the bag claim in the airport will have to do.

Nice hotel, BTW.

As Julian states, there's a left luggage office on the lower level of the international arrival building. (Take the elevator to the parking level.)

For each bag, the charge is R50 for the first day and R40 for each day thereafter.

I remembered checking the Airports Co. of SA's website recently, and thought I'd seen a lower rate. But the website (which says a flat R32/day for any size or mass bag) is out of date. To the frustration of the person to whom I spoke a few minutes ago. Those higher figures are correct. (The operation is that of an independent co. and not ACSA.)
