Luggage limits

We are flying from Jo'berg to Sabi Sands on Federal Air. Do they have weight restrictions for luggage? Our travel agent said we have a 30 pound limit for Botswana. What about other internal flights . . .44 pounds? I'm trying to pack as lightly as possible - maybe 3 small bags for the 2 of us, allowing us to leave one in Jo'berg if necessary because we will have city clothes as well as golf clothes with us.

I could not see any info about luggage on their site. You might email them if for confirmation.

What are the 'other internal flights'?

My suggestion is to leave the unneeded clothes in Jburg if you can.

Actually, 30 pounds/person or a few days should be adequate. My wife and I had a total of 79 lb luggage for 3 weeks for SA.

On our 3 flights in Botswana, the pilot just looked at our luggage and put them onboard. ((*))

Federal Air is 20kg, including hand luggage and internal flights (ex-Cape Town to Jo'Burg) are the same.

When we flew Federal Air over the holidays, they did not weigh our handbags, but someone I "met" on Trip Advisor said they weighed hers. Our plane was not full and maybe that is why. I'd play it safe though and stick with the 20 kg (or 44 pounds). Remember that soft-sided luggage is best but not mandatory.

I do not know about Botswana since I did not go there.

Have a blast!

Thanks for the responses - and Jed, for yours on the Botswana board. My wheels are turning, but I think I will have a better idea on the type of bags to pack in once I lay things out. I assume all the camps provide toiletries?

I think it depends if you are going to a nice lodge in a private reserve or a campground in Kruger Park. The nice lodges provide mostly everything. I don't remember about shampoo, but I brought my own. Toilet paper and towels for sure though.

We bought those big rolling duffel bags. They are soft sided, make us look like low-budget travelers (to prevent baggage pilfering at Jo'Burg airport), and weigh less than traditional suitcases! Hey, I'll take every extra pound I can get.

We flew Delta to SA and their stipulation was 60 inches total (length plus width plus height), I think. I got it on their website. I think my rolling duffel bag was 58 inches...:)

Good luck!
