Luggage / Clothing for Safari

I am soon to be off on my trip to Kenya (early May). We are doing a Safari around Kenya at various camps, followed by a 3 day Gorilla trek in Rwanda. As this will be my first Safari, what would you recommend for 1. Luggage, and 2. Clothing? I am not worried about the flights getting to Africa for luggage, but the ones that will be flying us to the Safari camps, and the flight to Rwanda.
Thanks for the help.

Do a search on this board for many threads to answer your questions. Just insert "clothing" or "packing" or "luggage" (with out the quotation marks) click the search button and the threads will appear in the left column.

A few more comments for the gorillas. Be sure your cameras are adequately protected from rain. Plastic bags or trash bags are easy to pack.

Gloves for stinging nettles are a good idea. On some of the treks there were nettles, others there were none. A granola bar or something during your trek is good. Usually lunch occurs after the gorillas are found, and often is at a restaurant after you've descended. It can be a very late lunch.

A water bottle in a "holster" that goes around your waist is very helpful on the treks. You can stop and drink whenever you want. If you have a porter carrying your pack, he (or she--there are some shes!!) will bring it to you. I still found it beneficial to have a few sips about every 10 minutes to help prevent dehydration and you generally don't stop that often.

For luggage, a good duffel type bag works well. What concerns do you have about the internal flights?

Have a great trip. It's not long now.
