Luangwablondes or others: What do you know about visiting Bangwelu Swamp?

Thanks for any info. I'd be going alone most likely, but willing to join a group to go.

Lynn - I'm not Luangwablondes, but there was an article in Travel and Leisure long agon about this. It's actually how I first learned of Zambia. I thinks the article is about 4 years old however! I'd be happy to copy and mail to you. Or ... I'm sure others who have been there will answer. Luangewa has a line on some operators there, and you can check out Gavin Blair Safaris on the web. T&L The article featured him and a group he led thru the swamps. Good luck!

If you are looking for a safari operator, the most experienced would be Mark Harvey of Shiwa Safaris. He was born and raised close by. He does a land safari including Banguela, Kasanka, Shiwa Ngandu. Haven't been to Banguela, but also recommend going into North Luangwa NP highly while there.

You can mail Mark at a couple of the following, see if he has any groups scheduled you can sign up with. He leads the Banguela/Kasanka safaris himself. His advertised safaris are flexible.

This is his address (if you want to communicate quickly with him) when on safari-the camp in North Luangwa NP closes sometime soon in November.

Thanks for the info. I'll look for the article at the library where they have back issues.

Atravelynn - It's the Feb. 1998 issue. (I guess it was more than 4 years ago.

One of the reasons I never went to Bangwuelu was that both times I had been to Uganda I saw the shoebill along the side of the road on the way to Bwindi from Kampala. I thought it was just a very common bird then. What a surprise to find out people were booking safaris to see the bird in Zambia.
