Sallam 'lekum wlke,
El Jadida is a cheerful coastal town with a wonderful, UNESCO-listed medina (called the Cité Portugaise) that doesn't receive as many international visitors as it should. During August however, this is one of the most popular towns for holidaying Moroccans. There's a fair selection of budget- to mid-range hotels in the town center, as well as a block-standard Ibis hotel on the beachfront and the sprawling Mazagan Beach Resort a few miles north. In recent years a few maisons d'hôte have opened within the medina, of which Dar del Mare and Dar El Jadida are personal favorites.
While in El Jadida, take half a day to explore the nearby medina of Azemmour on the mighty (in historical terms) Oum er Rbia River.
Your fellow traveler
