Lodges & Camps...or Animals?

Am I the only one that thinks the superb, luxurious lodges & camps you encounter on safari can be almost as exciting as viewing the animals themselves? Note that I did say almost! I went on a 3-week Kenya & Tanzania safari with Micato in 2005 (planning Botswana now), and I can honestly say that there came a point when my group & I were practically running into our tents & lodges upon arriving at a new location, we were so anxious to see what the new 'digs' were like! We stayed at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, Kirawira, Bateleur at Kichwa Tembo, Mount Kenya Safari Club, and Tortilis camp. Oh I also stayed at the Norfolk hotel upon arriving, but I could care less about staying in a hotel...or African city life for that matter. Just get me out into the bush in a luxurious camp or lodge with the animals all around, and I'm in heaven! Bots, here I come!

No, and I suspect we aren't the only ones

I like to check everything out too and take pictures before I mess it all up

Although I must say I've really enjoyed the solitude of camping in East Africa as well. There's a bit of both rustic and fru-fru girl in me.

Enjoy Botswana!

... another fru-fru gal here. Like Patty, I take the pictures before messing up the place.

... lux is nice, and if I had my druthers, it would always be lux, but there's something to be said for rustic; you get over some amenities that might be missing when you understand where you are and what awaits.

Either way, I'd rather be on safari, in Afree-kah!

LionQueen,

For your Botswana safari...i would recommend the 6paw camps....Mombo, Kings Pool, Vumbura plains

LionQueen,

I'm sure you'll be running into each new tent in Botswana with enthusiasm.

Please post your plans when you have them.

I now see your planning process on the other site. Some good suggestions there.

To answer the question in your title, for me it's Animals.

Animals for me, too. The less intrusive camps are, the more exciting they are likely to be; otherwise, they're just a place to put my head on a pillow.

You're on, Lynn! I'd rather go see the big dog pack and the cheetahs at Monarto...only an hour down the road, and Chez Afrigalah, TV and the internet waiting for me at the end of the day
