listening to the radio in East Africa

I don't know what frequencies on which local radio stations can be heard when in East Africa - what would one tune to, to listen when there?

Music or news?

I would think Nairobi etc etc., would have regular radio stations FM/AM .....

but the big wave in India right now is Satellite radio stations - World Space is the name of the company. Lots of announcements come for listeners in Nairobi/Joburg ....

Interesting, thanks. Yeah. over there for a couple weeks, I assume just an ordinary little radio will be adequate for news, music.

You may want to take a look at http://www.radio-locator.com/--they have a few stations that should work over the internet. Try it out. I listen to South Africa stations every once in a while using this site.

Thanks - what I meant was this: when I am on safari in Tanz and Kenya, if I want to listen to local news and music while drifting off to sleep under the mosquito net, would an ordinary little radio, like the kind we use here in the US, work -- or are there different frequencies?
Thanks
Jess

jess,

On safari ...... sorry, mis-understood your question. You will hear all kinds of sounds from the bush and trust me will get you sleeping as soon as you hit the sack...

That's certainly what I'm hoping for, Hari.

Jess, if you do take a radio(or any music player) on safari, you might consider earphones as well. Sound travels in the bush and what you might consider enjoyable, someone else might consider a distraction from the natural experience.
