Going to China! I have been most places in the world, but someone said 'go to China and you will never be the same'. We did, and we have not been the same. Why? The very granduer of the place, all the history and culture, the teeming massess everywhere (you don't know the meaning of the world til you see China), the ability for large groups to get fairly well along, the colision of a farming and modern culture (collective farms right next to a giant office tower), lack of respect for individual life (life is cheap in China), one child families,and the effects of that law on the population (lots more boys than girls), the love of the Chinese for their children, their superstitious nature, the river, and the life it supports, what a 'cottage industry' is in China (a girl with a sewing machine working on the sidewalk, or a guy giving haircuts on the street corner), etc., etc., and the rare and simply beauty of the Chinese mountains, artwork, etc., etc., I could go on and on. It's a different world in a huge state of flux at the moment. YOu have no idea what 'air pollution' is until you have been to China, where, in the cities, the air is almost green. Seems they admire all things American, and view their government with a degree of tolerance as if to say "this too will pass away".
