Libya access from UK

Trying to plan a bike holiday in Libya. The BA flights form UK are very expensive. Options then are to fly to Malta and take a ferry or Fly to Tunisia and bike across the frontier.

Recomendations?

Where are you from? Are you sure you can get a visa? At present, theey're apparently not giving visas to Americans.

well, check first anyway. No point planning the trip & discovering you can't get there. It's Libya that won't let Americans in -- not the US prohibiting travel there.

Americans can get in, but it appears that we have to go through a tour group. 3 friends (Americans) of mine went in January through a UK agent, Incredibly costly for one week but they said well worth it.

They're lucky. The Cairo office of the American Archeological group (ARCE) located in Egypt can't get Visas for the Americans so ARCE had to cancel the planned trip in the Fall 2007.

Winniep: I wonder if you can provide the name of the travel agency your friends used in the UK. Thanks much.
